:Abstract

Telemedicine is the key to creating public health for the growing population of the world. The main obstacle for telemedicine is fast response and high throughput of the network. A system that guarantees no interruption during tele-surgery is only possible when we combine high bandwidth of 5G and autonomous response of the system in case of interruption. To train and develop such an autonomous system we need data that is only available at the edge of the network. Therefore combining 5G and ML over the edge (specifically federated learning) plays an important role to unlock the power of telemedicine that in turn increases the (self-reporting) happiness and life satisfaction of the society. In this talk we will review the main technologies towards enabling this combining, and thus, making the future world smart enough to reduce healthcare costs, improve patient outreach and health outcomes.
